Trapeze Lessons

Sometimes ensuring you are aligned is literally the most important thing you can do. This is on print in large organizations, small ones and especially on a trapeze!

This is one my favorite memories that pops up every year and reminds me of a fun birthday adventure I had with some girlfriends quite a while ago. (Yes, the little dot in the blue tank top is me)

And while the memory makes me smile all by itself, it also reminds me of the leadership lessons we learned on that afternoon.

1. If you aren’t watching what the other person is doing, you will fall.
2. If you hesitate when you are supposed to act, you will fall.
3. If your teammates (we had an extra helper on our side) don’t communicate, you will fall.
4. If you (an everyone) do everything right, you might still fall.

That’s the heard truth, sometimes you fall even if everything goes right, but what keeps you from gettin hurt if the safety net below.

So, as a leader, do you have the right safety net in place so your team can (not quite literally) fly without fear of injury? If not, don’t be surprised when they don’t choose to make the leap.
