Who’s accomplishment is more exciting?

As a team leader, do you ever find yourself more excited for those around you to achieve their goals than to achieve you own?

June is birthday month in our house and every year it reminds me that so much of what it takes to build a great family is what it takes to build a great team. For me, work and life have always been intertwined, so watching my newly minted 16 year old drive away made me think about how excited I’ve always gotten when one of my team members accomplishes something big.

In the video you can hear someone say, “don’t cry momma,” but tears were the farthest thing possible as I stood there. I couldn’t stop smiling as he was proudly pulling out of the driveway with bows and streamers attached to his hand-me-down near-vintage truck (it originally belonged to my dad).
