What’s your Why?

What’s your why? My why came when my now teenage son was just an infant and I felt like I was failing at everything. I needed flexibility to be able to be the type of mother, spouse, friend, and employee that I wanted to be. Fifteen years ago the barriers to flexible work were a lot higher than they are today, and the options were much more limited, but it was worth the effort to get what I needed to be successful in the ways that mattered to me.

I don’t know where you are in your journey, but I encourage you to figure out what is important to you and and to fight for your own success. Today, flexibility allows me to be in all the places I want to be with my children. The picture on this post is one of those places…with my daughter’s Girl Scout troop on the top of a mountain. Last weekend I had the opportunity to take eight amazing middle school girls on an adventure chasing waterfalls and climbing mountains, making memories that will (hopefully) last a lifetime.

That’s my why. It might be the same as your why and it might be totally different. Your why might be living a healthy lifestyle by making time to work out. You why might be caring for an aging parent or spouse. Your why might be a passion for travel that takes you around the world. It doesn’t matter what the why is, just that you know it and use it to define success on your own terms!
